To make a homemade cutting knife for leather, the author uses a saw blade 450 mm long and 40 mm wide. The teeth must be cut off with a grinder or grinded on a grinding machine.
The first step is the marking - the saw blade will need to be cut into three parts. Thus, from one blank alone, you can make as many as three knives for working with leather.
To cut the saw blade into three pieces of the desired shape, the author uses a drill and a diamond blade. If there is rust on the metal, then first you need to remove it with a grinder with a petal circle or in another way.
Knife making process
After cutting the saw blade into three parts, you can proceed to sharpening. The author performs this work on the grinding machine. Note that the knife itself has one-sided sharpening.
For further sharpening the cutting edge, the author uses a special device with a drip water supply. Using a homemade stray, the author maintains the desired angle of sharpening the blade.
Of the two remaining blanks from the saw blade, the author decided to make two different knives: one oblique (squared) and the second straight. And just before the descent, the author makes a selection to facilitate the subsequent sharpening of these knives.
