Redundant power supply

I have long had an idea to make myself a backup power source on a battery, such a peculiar “Power Bank” of high capacity with a voltage of 12 V. You can take it with you on a camping trip or go fishing and charge your phone, laptop, flashlight or some other gadgets there.
Yes, even keeping such a house can be very useful if you suddenly turn off the lights.

What do you need to make Power Bank?


First of all, the battery. The type that is used in an uninterruptible power supply for a computer. I found a 12 V battery with a capacity of 7 ampere hours. There are of course batteries and more powerful, but I took what was at hand.

The second is a mini box or case for tools. This can be bought at a hardware store. It is relatively inexpensive.

The third is a panel with a cigarette lighter and USB connectors. Which I bought - HERE.
Everything is connected very simply. There are three switches on the panel, the first one I made general - it cuts off the entire load. The second - uses a socket with a cigarette lighter. Well, the third is a socket with USB outputs. USB 5V converters are built into the cigarette lighter housing itself and are not visible.

I cut this entire control panel into the side wall of the tool case.

How is the battery attached?


A layer of building insulation is laid on the bottom of the box. The battery is on it. On the sides of the battery also fixes the same insulation, but in several layers. Reconciliation also presses a thicker piece. The battery keeps excellent, "Power Bank" turned out to be almost shockproof.

My backup source turned out to be very compact and convenient, especially for carrying, as it has an excellent handle.
I took this source with me to the campsite and charged it there with solar panels. In a campaign Power Bank showed itself only on the good side.

Also in the future I have an idea to integrate a 220 V converter, Watt into 200 V. so I think it will be a great idea.
