Scandinavian battle axes were widespread in antiquity - they differed not only in compact size, but also in relatively light weight, which made it possible to use such axes as throwing weapons.

Today everyone can make a Viking ax - in this review we will tell and show how to make this ancient weapon without forging. Of the tools you need a grinder, a belt sander

The main stages of work

As a blank for an ax blade, tool steel about 4 mm thick is suitable - we attach a paper template to the metal plate (can be downloaded on the Internet) and cut the blank with a grinder with a cutting disc. Then we process the ax on a belt grinding machine.

Then, using an ordinary flat file and a homemade sharpening device, we form the cutting edge of the ax. We transfer the drawing to the metal surface, after which the etching procedure is carried out. Since there are a lot of methods for pickling steel, choose the most suitable one for yourself.

Next, it is necessary to harden the cutting edge of the ax (we heat the metal red-hot and immerse it in a container with oil). We process the surface with fine emery paper, and then we make steel tempering by placing the ax in the oven, heated to 250 degrees. At the last stage of work, we make an ax, to which we attach an ax with rivets.
