In this review, we will look at how to make a simple universal 2-in-1 tool with your own hands, which will be useful in the process of welding. This is a metal scriber, with which you can make markings on the surface of the workpieces, as well as a convenient hammer to beat off the slag. For the manufacture of this homemade product we will use materials that are at hand.
The main stages of work
To make a scriber, you will need a small piece of a round file for metal, the end of which will need to be grinded onto a cone on an emery machine or using a grinder with a petal grinding wheel. The body of the scriber can be made of steel round timber of suitable diameter.
We drill a hole with a depth of 7-10 cm at the end of the round timber, after which we insert a file with a pointed end inside. For reliability, it is better to "put" the scriber on two-component glue. In the tail of the scriber’s body, we drill a through hole for a round bar - insert it into the hole and bend one edge.
Then you need a piece of steel strip that needs to be bent in half on a bending machine or in a vice. At one end of the strip, we drill a hole to put it on a steel rod, and the other end is simply welded to the other side of the bar.
At the last stage, a cone-shaped head of the hammer is welded to the smooth end of the bar, and then we clean the surface with a grinder, and the universal tool for welding is ready. The process of manufacturing this homemade product, see the video on the site.
