In this review, we will tell you how to make a simple and useful tool for a home workshop from an old door hinge (you can even use a rusty one). This homemade tool is a universal holder for stationery knife blades, saw blades and even sandpaper can be fixed in it to manually process wooden or metal workpieces.

In addition to the door hinge itself, some other materials will be required to make this universal holder:

  • a wooden handle from a file or a chisel (if there is a lathe, you can make a handle yourself);
  • long hairpin with two hex nuts;
  • two small bolts with wing nuts (for rigid fixation of the clerical blade or saw blade).

The main stages of work

First of all, it is necessary to knock out the steel “finger” from the door hinge (if the hinge is very rusty, then it will first need to be brushed with a metal brush for the grinder or with a grinding wheel).

Instead of a steel “finger”, we insert a long segment of a hairpin into the loop, which is tightened with nuts on both sides. We put a wooden handle on the shank of the stud, having previously drilled a hole in it and cutting the thread to the diameter of the rod. We also drill holes along the edges of the door hinge - insert bolts with wing nuts into them.

The result was a simple, but very convenient and practical to use hand tool, which is definitely useful in a workshop or garage. If you are interested in the functionality of this homemade product, then watch the video.
