In this review, the author decided to make wood cutters from arch support - a steel plate that is used in the manufacture of shoes. The arch support maintains the correct form of the shoe during its operation.
Why in this case the author uses arch support? The fact is that the plate itself is made of 60G steel (this is structural spring-spring steel), which is perfect for making wood cutters.
First of all, the instep support should be released, and then aligned in a vice. Then, with the help of a grinder, the author cuts off the unnecessary part from the plate. It also does not hurt to clean the workpiece from rust.
Next, using the grindstone, it is necessary to process the inside of the instep groove. This can be done with a drill and a suitable nozzle.
The main stages of work
At the next stage, the author cuts off everything superfluous from the plate, leaving only the “groove” itself. This can be done earlier, but then it will not be very convenient to process the workpiece.
Also, the author makes a couple of incisors, but from knives for the planer. Also good stuff.
At the last stage, it remains only to sharpen the cutting edges of the cutters. The author does this manually with the help of whetstones. Then hardening is carried out and wooden handles are made.
