Someone is easier to buy everything necessary for the workshop for money, but someone, on the contrary - likes to do it yourself. And both options have a right to exist.

In this review, the master decided to make a powerful vice for the workshop with an anvil from a piece of railway rail. Work, of course, is not easy, definitely have to sweat. But the result will be quite decent.

First of all, it will be necessary to cut off two pieces from a piece of railway rail. A small piece has a width of 60 mm, and a large one is 240 mm. You will also need a screw with a guide sleeve.

The main stages of work

From a large piece of rail it will be necessary to cut off the sole, which has a width of 150 mm. And the upper part will need to be divided into two more parts.

Next, from three segments of a thick plate (about 10-12 mm thick), it is necessary to weld an open box, inside which the master places the guide sleeve under the screw. You also need to screw the screws from the piece of the plate onto the screws.

At the next stage, it will be necessary to weld the workpieces to the box, which were cut from a large piece of the rail - the sole and the upper part.

At the sole, the master drills two holes for attaching the vise to the table. Further, from the four metal plates and a small piece of railway rail 60 mm wide, the movable part of the vise is made.

Then it remains only to make the clamping jaws from two segments of the plate and screw them to a vice. Details on how to make a powerful vice with an anvil from a piece of railway rail, you can watch in this video.
