In this review, the author shows how to do with your own hands to replace the old handle of a kitchen knife that has fallen into pieces with a new one.

This work can be done using a minimal set of tools. You will need a jigsaw, drill and grinder. If there is no grinding machine, you can handle the handle manually.

As a material for the manufacture of a new handle, the author uses a piece of oak board. But, in principle, you can even take plywood if there is no other material at hand.

First of all, using the old pen as a template, you need to cut two blanks from the oak board. For this, the author uses a jigsaw. If there is a band saw - even better.

The main stages of work

After grinding the blanks, the author makes a marking and drills holes for rivets in them. Then, using a countersink, it is necessary to make "seats" under the rivet caps in the blanks (in the place where the holes were drilled).

At the next stage, glue two halves of the handle to the shank of the knife, and put two rivets of aluminum wire with a diameter of 5 mm. If desired, you can put copper or brass rivets.

Then it remains only to polish the handle: first coarse grinding (on a grinding machine), and then finishing - by hand.

The final touch is painting a new handle. First, the author covers the pen with stain, and then with mineral oil.
