Sneakers and sneakers made of fabric are very soft, so they are often worn in the summer, but they are completely unsuitable for rainy weather. Caught in a shower, their feet are guaranteed to be wet. I offer a cheap one hundred percent way to make cloth shoes waterproof.

Materials and Tools

This is the simplest method, and also very cheap.
To work, you will need:
  • wax candle;
  • hair dryer.

Be sure to use a light candle without dye. Best if made from beeswax. Technical paraffin of cheap candles is oily, therefore, when applied, the fabric is covered with indelible dust.

We give cloth shoes water-repellent properties

We take one pair, but we will conduct the entire experiment with one boot, in order to compare it with another, not processed.
If the shoes are not new and have already been worn, then they must first be thoroughly washed. Ideally, use a washing machine by turning on the delicate mode. When applying wax to dirty sneakers, then they can no longer be washed, and they will always be stained.
When the shoes are completely dry, a candle is taken and rubbed into the fabric. It is necessary to rub thoroughly to leave more wax. Particular attention should be paid to the seams and the place of transition of the fabric into the sole. No uncovered areas should remain.

On the right is a grated shoe.

Using a hair dryer, the wax melts and is absorbed into the fibers of the fabric, making them waterproof. It also fills the cavities between them, which completely prevents the penetration of moisture. You need to warm with a hairdryer until there are no rubbed grains from the candle on the fabric.

Now the shoes are no different in color.

In the end, it is important to examine all the seams and surfaces for a protruding molten wax layer. Such places need to be warmed up again so that the impregnation completely goes into the fabric. If this is not done, then in the future the wax will crumble from bending, which will spoil the appearance of the shoe and it will have to be reheated to remove defects. When done correctly, the appearance of the sneakers will remain the same.
After protection from getting wet, the impregnated fabric shoes will become impermeable not only to moisture but also to air. She will not breathe as well as before. This is the only drawback of this method. It should be borne in mind that with a decrease in temperature, wax loses its elasticity, becoming hard. In this regard, you can not wear such sneakers or sneakers in the early spring or late fall. Otherwise, the wax will crumble from them, so it will have to be rubbed again. When it crumbles, the shoes do not look the best.
We try to pour water on an untreated shoe.

It immediately gets wet and absorbs moisture. Next, water the processed one.

From all sides.

You can compare the result yourself:
