This is an incredibly useful device that will protect your home from a short circuit when checking any devices under test. There are times when it is necessary to check the appliance for a short circuit, for example, after repair. And in order not to endanger your network, to be safe and avoid unpleasant consequences, this very simple device will help.

Will need

  • Socket invoice.
  • Key switch, waybill.
  • Incandescent light bulb 40 - 100 W with a cartridge.
  • Two-wire cable in double insulation 1 meter.
  • Collapsible fork.
  • Self-tapping screws.

All parts will be attached to a wooden square made of chipboard or other material.

It is better to use a wall lamp holder, but if you don’t have one, we make a bracket for grasping from thin sheet metal.

And throw out a square of thick wood.

Will be attached like that.

Assembly of a short-circuit proof socket

Scheme of the entire installation.

As you can see, all elements are connected in series.
First of all, we collect the plug by connecting a wire to it.

Since the socket and the switch are wall mounted, with a round file on the side we will make cuts for the wire. This can be done with a sharp knife.

We screw the wooden square to the base with self-tapping screws. Pick these so that they do not go through.

We screw the lampholder with a bracket onto a wooden square.

We disassemble the socket and the switch. We fasten the screws to the base.

We connect the wires to the cartridge.

For complete reliability, all wires are soldered. That is: we clean, bend the ring, solder with a soldering iron with solder and flux.

The power wire is fixed with nylon ties.

The circuit is assembled, the installation is ready for verification.

For testing, insert the charger from the cell phone into the outlet. We press the switch - the lamp does not shine. So there is no short circuit.

Then we take the load more powerful: the power supply from the computer. Turn on. An incandescent lamp flashes at the beginning and then goes out. This is normal, as there are powerful capacitors in the unit that become infected at the beginning.

We imitate short-circuit - we insert tweezers into the socket. Turn on, the lamp is on.

Here is such a wonderful and very necessary device.

Such an installation is suitable not only for low-power devices, but also for powerful ones. Of course, a washing machine or an electric stove will not work, but by the brightness of the glow, you can understand that there is no short circuit.
Personally, I have been using such a device almost all my life, checking on it all newly collected crafts.
