Connecting reinforcing bars with a wire using a special hook is a fairly simple process. But this instrument is far from always at hand. What to do if there is no hook, and you need to tie a grid or frame from the reinforcement?

We discard the pliers and a regular nail, bent by a hook, right away, because they won’t be able to quickly twist the wire. If there is no construction store nearby where you can buy a construction hook for knitting factory-manufactured fittings, then there is only one way out - to make such a tool yourself.

Making a homemade crochet hook

The basis for this homemade product will be an ordinary screwdriver with a plastic handle. As a rule, its core is made of strong and elastic steel, so a homemade hook will not be unbent with great effort. You can make a hook from either a long or short screwdriver (at your discretion).

First of all, we heat the end of the steel rod using a gas burner. It is not necessary to warm up the entire rod, but only its edge, which is then bent into a hook with a hammer. You can bend it “cold”, but in this case it will take more effort.

It is desirable to sharpen the end of the rod or just grind it onto a cone, so that it is more convenient to grab the wire for knitting reinforcement. This is how simple it is to make the simplest hook for knitting reinforcing bars. Write in the comments what you think about this homemade product.
