The main stages of work
First of all, we draw a knife template or download a ready-made drawing from the Internet and print it on a printer. Then we transfer the template to the circular saw blade from the circular using a white marker, clamp it in a vice and cut the blank with a grinder along the contour. Next, heat the knife in the oven and let it cool.
After tempering, we begin machining - we grind the knife on a belt-grinding machine and manually modify those places that cannot be reached by a grinder. In the rear part, we drill three holes for fixing the handle. At the next stage of work, we proceed to the formation of the cutting edge and its sharpening. Please note that the hook on the knife is sharpened with a round file and only on one side.
Then we heat the blade red-hot and lower it into a container with oil, as a result of which the steel will become harder, but less durable. It will also be necessary to “dry” the knife in the oven for some time - this procedure is called low-temperature tempering. Then the surface of the knife is ground and polished. If desired, you can put the mark on the blade. In the end, it remains only to make a wooden handle.
