Most often, beginner blacksmiths, who have just embarked on the path to mastering the "fiery craft", are not able to immediately equip their workshop with everything necessary for forging, so they have to be content with little - which is at hand.
One of the main attributes of the blacksmith's workshop is the anvil. That's just it costs a lot. But, as the Kulibina masters say, if you don’t have the opportunity to buy something, you can do it yourself.
For the first time, it’s enough to make a simple mini-anvil, on which you can level and beat the blanks for kitchen and hunting knives, as well as make various decorative elements.
You can make an inexpensive mini-anvil for your home workshop or garage from an ordinary 32-kilogram weight. The main thing is that it should be massive and cast, and not hollow.
The main stages of work
First, three steel pipes 32 mm in diameter should be cut to size, which will be used as supporting legs for the anvil. They need to be welded to the top of the kettle, after having previously cleaned the joints with the grinder. The weight handle should be between the legs.
At the last stage, we cut off three rings from the half-inch pipe for fastening the auxiliary tool, which must be welded to the side of the weight. The surface of the mini-anvil can be painted black with spray paint.
It turned out cheaply and angrily - such an anvil does not take up much space in the workshop, while it is quite suitable for forging knives. The detailed process of making mini-anvil from kettlebell see in the video on the site.
