Metal stoppers for a ladder

In order to increase safety when climbing wooden, aluminum or metal ladders (especially if no one is insuring from below), the so-called “thrust bearings” are used - special stops that limit the stairs from moving.

You can make such "heel" emphasis with your own hands from improvised materials. In particular, for the manufacture of homemade limiters for a ladder, you will need:

  • 4 pieces of steel corner;
  • 4 pieces of a strip of metal;
  • 4 rectangular plates.

The main stages of work

We weld two angles to the plate from different sides (in order not to bother with welding, you can simply use a piece of a channel of a suitable size). Then, the second plate must be welded at right angles to the base of the limiter. On the sides of the heel, we weld two jibs from segments of a strip of metal. Similarly, we make the second emphasis for the stairs.

After that, the resulting stop-limiters are cleaned with a grinder, and if desired, they can be painted. They are installed under the "heels" of the vertical racks of the ladder.

Please note that if you use the stairs in places where the plank floor is laid, it makes sense to make the width of the stop-limiters slightly larger than the width of the board so that you can install them in the gaps between the boards. Also, such heels can be used on the ground.

On smooth surfaces (for example, tile flooring) or concrete substrates, there will be little use for such improvised restraints. For a detailed manufacturing process, as well as possible applications for homemade stops for a ladder, see the video on the website.
