A wooden mallet (or carpenter's hammer) with beveled edges is very often used to hammer chisels and chisels. However, this is not the only scope of this tool. The mallet is also used in the assembly of furniture and in the processing or fitting of parts and products from soft materials.
To make a wooden hammer with beveled edges with your own hands, you will need a log of fruit tree wood (for example, an apple tree, a pear or a cherry). The handle can be made of cedar or walnut.
It is advisable to use wood in light and dark shades to get an interesting and original color contrast. First of all, we dissolve the log on a circular saw, so that in the end we get two pieces of the same thickness.
The main stages of work
Two small blanks must be cut from the dark wood board, which we cut at an angle of 5-6 degrees. After that we glue all the blanks together. Bottom and top we use bars of a light shade, and inside - "inserts" of dark shade of wood.
In the middle, you need to leave a square hole for the handle. After gluing, the ends must be trimmed at a slight angle to make beveled edges. Then the surface of the workpiece must be sanded, and the edge must be passed with a manual milling cutter.
At the next stage, cut out the handle and make two cuts in the upper part, so that you can then wedge it. Then we put the head of a mallet on the handle.
