From an old tapping thread, which is made of high speed steel or hard alloys, you can make a cool forged knife. You can take such a homemade knife to hunt with you, and it will come in handy on the farm.

If there is a blacksmith hearth and anvil, it will not be difficult to make a knife from a tap; the main thing is to choose a larger tap if possible. The manufacturing technology of this knife is standard. Whoever deals with knives knows.

First of all, the workpiece must be warmed up so that you can give it the desired shape. Throw the tap in the hearth and heat red (to a bright orange color). Then we transfer the workpiece itself to the anvil, and "beat it off" with a hammer.

The main stages of work

The resulting workpiece is processed on a belt grinding machine to remove bumps and make the surface smooth. Then we paste a paper knife template onto the plate, cut it out with a grinder.

At the next stage, it will be necessary to grind the edges of the workpiece (with a petal wheel angle grinder or on belt grinding), removing unevenness and burrs. Then we drill four through holes in the tail section. Next, we form the slopes of the blade of the blade.

At the last stage, we perform hardening and tempering of steel. Then we make wooden pads for the handle. You can also make them plastic. For details on how to make a knife from an old tap with your own hands, see the video on the site.
