From two old brake pads for a car, as well as some other improvised materials, you can make a universal key for your garage or home workshop with your own hands. This homemade product, for sure, will be useful in the household for many craftsmen.

With this simple universal key, you can easily unscrew, for example, an oil filter in a car or other various cylindrical parts that have a large diameter.

And the first thing to do is remove the friction linings from the brake pads. It is necessary to leave only the "frame" itself. Then, with the help of a grinder, it is necessary to cut off the bulging "ears" on the brake pads.

The main stages of work

Next, you need to cut a piece of a hairpin with a diameter of 16 mm with a length of approximately 210-230 mm (the length may be different - at your discretion). Along the edges of the brake pads, drill holes for the M8 bolt.

The master welds a nut to the "tail" of the stud. A couple more nuts are welded to one of the brake pads. Then you will need a piece of the wall of the steel pipe in which you need to drill a hole and make a countersink for the M5 screw.

At the next stage, in the end of the stud, you need to drill a hole and cut the thread using a tap under the M5 screw. Next, the master cuts a piece of metal perforated tape that is suitable for length, and bends its ends so that M8 bolts fit inside.

The detailed process of manufacturing a universal key from old brake pads for a car is recommended to watch in the video on the website.
