In the independent adjustment of car headlights, in principle, there is nothing complicated, if everything is done wisely. Therefore, even at home, you can make the adjustment as close as possible to a professional one.

In this review, we consider the adjustment of lensed and halogen headlights. Before proceeding with this procedure, it is necessary to check the pressure in all tires. If it is different, you need to align it. In tires, the pressure should be the same - this is important.

To adjust the car headlights yourself, you will need a thread, a laser flashlight, a marker, a construction tape measure of 10 meters, as well as a level length of 40-60 cm (this will be enough).

The main stages of work

First of all, we find a more or less even area and a reflective surface, which should be approximately 3 to 7 meters from the car. For example, a garage door can be used as a reflective surface. In your case, it may be something else.

Next, take the thread, and make a loop, which will need to be hooked onto the tread pattern so that it passes along the edge of the disc (both the front and rear wheels).

Then you need to unwind the thread to the reflected surface. As a result, we get the horizon line. The thread itself can be fixed on the surface of a metal gate using a neodymium magnet.

If the reflected surface is wooden, you can use a nail or pushpin. The main thing is that the thread is well tensioned and securely fastened.

After receiving the correct horizontal line, put a marker on the marker. Similarly, you need to do the other side of the car. As a result, a smooth horizontal line relative to the car should be obtained on the reflected surface.

Step-by-step headlight adjustment process

We set the level strictly under the stretched thread. Moreover, the level should be set perfectly on the horizon. After that, you need to measure the height from the thread to the center of the lamp or lens of the car headlight.

Transfer the resulting size to the reflected surface. That is, we postpone the desired distance from the horizon along the disks, and put a mark. We do this procedure on the left and right sides of the car.

Next, you will need to use the laser flashlight to find the center of the car, and transfer it to the reflected surface.

On the rear window of the car we find the middle, and direct the laser beam through the entire interior and through the windshield directly under the rear view mirror.

Using a stretched thread, we make a horizontal line on the gate. Then it will be necessary to measure the center distance of the headlights. To do this, the master uses construction tape. The resulting size must be transferred to the reflected surface.

After that, it remains only to make simple mathematical calculations and adjust the headlights. How to do it right, you can see in this video.
