In the process of carrying out repairs in a house or apartment, it may be necessary to make the transition from a cast-iron sewer pipe to a plastic one. Everything seems to be simple, but many may encounter certain difficulties.

In this review, the author shares his own experience and tells how to make the transition from a cast-iron pipe to a plastic one.

The main difficulty is to remove the tee from the socket. It is not always possible to do this quickly and accurately.

The fact is that the cast-iron tee was sealed using resin-impregnated rope (heel), which was additionally poured with another cement slurry.

The main stages of work

So, how do you remove the cast-iron tee from the socket? First of all, you need to use a screwdriver and a hammer (of course, you need to use an impact screwdriver) to knock out the hardened cement mortar.

Next, it will be necessary to slowly loosen the tee in the socket and pull it towards you. You don’t need to hammer on it, because you can break the bell itself.

After that, it will be necessary to clean the inner walls of the bell so that there are no layers. This can be done using the same screwdriver or something else. You can also use the screwdriver head, which is designed to clean metal.

Sometimes when cleaning the pipe from rust, an old crack may appear (or a new one will form). The situation is unpleasant, but not critical. The crack can be repaired by cold welding.

At the last stage, it remains only to insert a rubber o-ring into the socket, putting it on the glue. And then you can already insert a plastic tee.
