If you still have an old water meter, do not rush to throw it away. From it you can do with your own hands a simple homemade product, which someone might find useful in everyday life.

In this case, we are talking about how to make an automatic wire coiler from an old meter (more precisely, from a part of it) that can "count" the number of turns. For some homemade craftsmen, such homemade work may be useful.

The first step is to remove the locking ring and get to the counting mechanism. Then remove the protective plastic casing.

Homemade manufacturing process

At the next stage, it will be necessary to remove the back cover from the counting mechanism and get the magnetic gear. This is necessary so that the reading mechanism does not rattle during operation. Then the cover can be put in place.

Next, from a piece of board (or plywood) and two pieces of a bar, you need to make a base. In one of the bars it is necessary to drill a through hole for a plastic tube (rod from a ballpoint pen).

On the second bar with the help of hot glue, the author fixes the mechanism from the water meter. The end of the plastic tube must be put on the small pin on which the counter flag was located.

At the other end of the ballpoint pen, the author makes a copper wire handle. The result is a simple home-made device for counting the number of turns.

The detailed manufacturing process of this homemade product can be seen in the video on our website.
