It seems to be nothing complicated to make a wooden hatchet, but if you are going to do it for the first time, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the process of performing the work.
First of all, of course, you need to determine the material for the ax. To do this, it is usually recommended to use ash, oak, birch or beech.
Then we take a blank for an ax, draw by hand or according to the template the contours of the handle, cut it with an electric jigsaw or with a band saw.
The main stages of work
At the next stage, the author processes the workpiece with his home-made rasp made of canvases for a band saw.
After rough grinding, the author processes the workpiece using a grinding nozzle on an electric drill.
Then we try on an ax and, if necessary, remove all excess "meat" with a usual rasp. Then we grind it by hand, removing all the bumps.
At the top (at the end) of the finished ax you need to make a cut under a wooden wedge.
At the last stage, it remains only to plant the ax on the ax, and hammer the wooden wedge, greasing it with glue.
